Women and Wine Tours

Cheers!

One of the things we love doing when we are in Spain is to enjoy the local wines.  Wine seems to be everywhere and they all seem to be so good.  One of the best ways to really see where it all begins and takes place is at the wineries so we decided what better way to share the experience than to offer wine tours.

During our trip to Spain, we planned for an escape to Penedes.  Penedes is a wine region just outside of Barcelona.  We have fallen in love with the area and have discovered a few special wineries to share with our lovely women traveling together.

We took the scenic route to arrive in Penedes which offered some beautiful views of the vineyards, mountains and country homes.  Our first stop with the women travelers was a local coffee shop.  It is a typical bar for the locals but we received a warm welcome.  The coffee is quite good as is the wine.  This is the typical spot where most of the workers from the wineries stop to take a coffee break or grab lunch before heading back to work.

Next, was Jean Leon, an authentic and unique bodega perched up on a hill.  It was a beautiful and sunny December morning and though the harvest had already been picked, the views were still lovely.  Here we were able to learn the story of this winery owner and dreamer.  Our group of women traveling together was surprised to learn about the history of Jean Leon and how this native of Spain made his way to New York City in pursuit of his dreams.  We also learned about his wine and were able to enjoy the wines as well.

Time for Wine...sunshine on the terrace...in December!

Time for Wine…sunshine on the terrace…in December!

After our tour throughout the winery, cellar and grounds (there was even a museum) we were able to indulge in a variety of wines on a sunny terrace with views of the grand vineyards.  We shared wine with another small group which made for a fun and lively experience though intimate as well.  The women soaked up the sunshine and vistas.  After 4 full glasses of wine, vino tinto and vino blanco, everyone was feeling quite relaxed and seemed to be enjoying the experience very much.  The hosts at the winery were quite gracious and never made us feel unwanted or as if we were taking up too much of their time.  In fact, we were able to sit and sip our wine for as long as we wanted, a great chance to really enjoy the moment and the beauty of this wonderful area.
