Fall is upon us in New York. Leaves just keep on falling from trees and winds just keep on blowing. Days are shorter. The heat in our apartment has been humming away. The layers are being layered. I have officially begun wearing my winter coat, scarf and even gloves. Bryant Park’s Winter Village has already set up its temporary holiday shops and ice skaters are already on the ice. Tourists are crowding the streets and getting their shopping in. Department stores are twinkling with the beginning of their holiday light displays. And more lattes have been in order along with hot jasmine and green tea at night to keep cozy and warm.
Meanwhile, in the city of Barcelona, Spain, Zeis’ family is enjoying unseasonably warm temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. We can’t help dreaming about what we’re missing. Warm strolls on the Barceloneta, Sunday afternoon homemade paella with family, going to the local winery and of course those amazing cafe con leches in the mornings and afternoons. The warm weather may not be normal, but Spain sure does sound nice right about now.
In the meantime, we will just continue to enjoy and appreciate our perfect fall afternoons in Brooklyn, our cozy Sunday mornings when we get to sleep in a bit longer because it’s just a bit too chilly to have to go out, the afternoons we do make it outdoors to take a walk to get fresh bread. Aah, only 34 more days.
