This week Spain lost one of its greatest musicians, the great flamenco guitarist, Paco de Lucia. Zeis was upset to hear the news and even expressed feeling a sense of emptiness for never having been able to see one of his performances.
Paco de Lucia was raised in a musical family. His father who was also a guitarist gave him his first guitar at the age of 5. His two brothers also helped with his music. His talent was recognized from an early age. He participated in competitions and at the age of 14 was hired as the guitarist for a Spanish dance company. This gave him the opportunity to travel and tour around the US. His fame also continued to grow.
He was considered a musical genius. He is credited with collaborating with different artists which helped to broaden the reach of flamenco music to various audiences. But he always stayed true to himself and his music.
