Arrive in Barcelona El Prat airport where we will personally pick you up and transport you to your hotel. Your hotel is located right in the center of the Born neighborhood, one of the most modern neighborhoods in the city. It was once the home to textile guilds and now offers an array of hip restaurants and bars as well as culture. Upon arriving to your hotel, you will have some time to unwind from your journey or begin exploring the city before cocktail and tapas where you will get to mingle with your fellow travelers and also meet your hosts. The evening is yours if you choose to continue and grab a drink or get some rest to prepare for the day ahead.
Start the day with breakfast followed by a trip to Sagrada Familia, the masterpiece of the famous Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Here you will get your first taste of this great architect’s unique work. Construction on the cathedral was begun in 1882 and remains unfinished. After taking in this work of art, we will enjoy authentic Catalan cuisine in the Barri Gotic at the oldest restaurant in Barcelona. After lunch we will stroll through the famous las Ramblas and head into Boqueria market where you will find the freshest products in season. The rest of the day is yours.
After breakfast we head out of the city for our first day trip. Today we will explore the vineyards of Penedes, the wine and cava region of Catalonia. We will have a guided tour of the vineyards and the wine and cava making process…of course a tasting is included. We will also enjoy lunch at the vineyards…feel free to stroll the grounds after lunch. We head back to Barcelona where the evening is for you to do as you wish.
Today is New Year’s Eve. After breakfast we have an optional shopping trip planned where we will take you to some of the local designer shops….perhaps pick up something new to wear to celebrate the new year. If you would rather, the morning is yours to venture out on your own and experience the excitement of the locals preparing for the new year. Maybe you’d like to indulge at the spa instead…if so, we can help arrange that as well. Tonight we will meet and have dinner together. We will partake in the Spanish tradition of 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight. Happy New Year!
January 1st is a quiet day in the city where most locals spend the day with family. Here is your chance to sleep in and relax after the previous night’s festivities. We have arranged a trip to Sitges, a nearby coastal town. In Sitges you will be able to explore this picturesque town at your leisure. In this coastal town, we will be able to enjoy a seafood lunch together. After lunch and a bit more exploring, we will head back to Barcelona. Plan your evening as you wish. Rest up as tomorrow we have a busy morning discovering the rest of Gaudi’s creations.
After breakfast we start the day with a visit to some of Gaudi’s most famous masterpieces. We will see Casa Batllo, a house was designed without a plan and incorporates curves and more curves. If you are impressed by the exterior of this Modernisme/Art Nouveau beauty, wait until you see the interior. La Pedrera, another incredible structure with a rooftop, boasts panoramic views of the city. The rest of the day is yours until we meet again for our goodbye dinner. Tonight’s farewell will include a flamenco show.
Today we will have one last breakfast before you are dropped off and head back home….safe travels and we hope you’ve enjoyed your adventure!
